From the President's Desk – November 2025
Our National Conference, held over the weekend of 18–19 October in Melbourne’s CBD, was once again the highlight of the ATAA calendar. By all accounts, it was a great success — both in terms of the quality of presentations and the consistently positive feedback from attendees. It was also a financial success, producing a healthy surplus — a welcome turnaround after the loss incurred at the 2023 Conference.
On the evening before the Conference, we hosted a complimentary dinner for all attending Office Bearers, as a 'thank you' for the time and effort they contribute to running the ATAA. It was a wonderful opportunity for Office Bearers from around the country to meet and exchange ideas in person.
The day after the Conference, the Board held a full-day, in-person strategy meeting to develop initiatives for the future direction of the ATAA. These strategic priorities will be shared with members once they are fully developed and ready for implementation.
Our marketing partnership with Mobiweb, a Melbourne-based digital marketing agency, also got off to a strong start in October. The Mobiweb account manager attended the Conference to gain first-hand insight into the ATAA community and took part in the marketing discussion at the strategy meeting the following day.
Finally, a reminder that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 12 November 2025, and I encourage all members to take part. We have two new nominees for positions on the Board — an encouraging sign of ongoing engagement and renewal within the ATAA.

| Executive Summary – ATAA Board Meeting (4 November 2025)
- At its November meeting, the ATAA Board reviewed the strong results from the 2025 National Conference, which produced a financial surplus and received very positive feedback from attendees.
- Membership numbers have stabilised, with encouraging new sign-ups in recent months.
- The Board confirmed the renewal of the Association’s term deposit with CBA, maintaining a healthy cash reserve.
- The Marketing Working Group has been revitalised and is now meeting regularly again to oversee day-to-day management of the Mobiweb digital campaign, which continues to strengthen ATAA’s online presence.
- Richard Dale was appointed as ATAA’s IT Director to improve documentation, system backups, and email reliability.
- Final preparations are now underway for the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 13 November 2025.
| ATAA Website Resource Library Updates - recordings Sept-October 2025
Our ATAA Resource Library now has many presentations and recordings going back to 2008. You can drill down on these using the website menu: Resources > Presentations by Date. An alternative way to find something specific on a particular topic is to search the library using the menu option: Resources > Search Resource Library.

ATAA National Board updates
| | | One key discussion topic from the recent ATAA Board meeting, plus offline discussions, is to do with the fantastic benefits from our SIG groups, and the need to encourage a few more of them. So a lot of discussion is underway to try to encourage more SIGs, and to assist the people who volunteer to run a SIG group. Stay tuned for more details.

| The Brisbane Chapter has changed its meeting time to a morning format. Starting on 11th October, meetings will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon while the frequency will remain on the second Saturday of the month. Each meeting will include a 15-minute networking break with tea, coffee, and light snacks provided.
Venue - All meetings will continue to be held at:
Lithuanian Cultural Association Hall, 49 Gladstone Road, Highgate Hill (corner of Morris Street).
The venue is conveniently located just outside Brisbane’s CBD:
- Free street parking is available on Gladstone Rd, Morris St, and Julia St.
- The no.196 bus from Adelaide St in the CBD stops right in front of the venue on Gladstone Rd.
- It is only a 15 minute walk from the Southbank bus and train stations.
The meeting room is air-conditioned and can comfortably seat at least 25 people at tables.
What to Expect - Meetings feature a variety of activities, including:
- Presentations and workshops focused on Technical Analysis Education
- Guest speakers sharing trading insights
- Networking opportunities to connect with other traders
- Discussions on trading ideas, strategies, and experiences.

October’s RealTest Coders workshop (operating under the Melb. Quant SIG) saw participants discussing:
- Historical US data before and after 1990;
- Work done by Mohamed and Graham on 5 different trading strategies developed with the assistance of ChatGPT;
- Importing a trade list into RT;
- Using the SPY to determine when it is Risk On vs Risk Off and as a component of an exit signal;
- The duration vs magnitude of major drawdowns;
- plus lots of lively chatter about AI in general.
This month’s meeting (to be held on Monday the 10th of November) is open discussion. Come along with any ideas or critical challenges.
The meetings are aimed at competent users of RealTest, but new users and intending users are more than welcome to join. A number of participants have also formed small ‘coding buddy’ groups (2-4 users) to develop and code up strategies collaboratively.
Recordings of the meetings along with any associated material can be found in the RT Coders SIG forum here.
[Always meets on the second Monday of the month.] | The Melbourne Chapter continues to host monthly hybrid meetings and we are still broadcasting the 2-hour segment of 6pm to 8pm by Zoom, and the recordings go into the ATAA website Resource Library - use the website menu: Resources > Presentations by Date. For those of you who are not able to be in the meeting room, you are missing: the invaluable networking (or "common gossip") from 5.15pm to 6pm (including free finger food), the interactions in the room during the broadcast session 6-8pm, and then further networking and guest speaker mingling over dinner after 8pm.
In the November meeting, Robert Brain will deliver the 5-minute chapter president's annual report, and explain the special Success Factors for the Melbourne Chapter. He will also thank all of the council (committee) members, before delivering another popular session: "Should I have bought this stock a month ago?" (A great demonstration of real Technical Analysis). Robert's session will be followed by Louise Bedford: "Investing Psychology Secrets: How to Stay Calm, Clear and Consistent". Don’t forget that public transport (tram) runs past the hotel front door, and there is ample car parking around the corner.

Every month when I prepare this newsletter, I spend ridiculous amounts of time fiddling around trying to make the line spacing consistent throughout, and the font sizes consistent; but it still turns out less than I would want it to.
