Speaker: Brent Penfold

Topic: Analysis is Good, Making Money is Better.

Learn how to build a robust mechanical strategy for profit Presented by Brent Penfold Trader, Advisor, Author and Educator. Most traders begin their journey with analysis—especially technical analysis. It’s an exciting world filled with endless possibilities, the promise of unlocking market secrets, and the thrill of discovery. But here’s the reality: while analyzing markets can be stimulating, challenging, and intellectually rewarding, it rarely translates into consistent profits. The pursuit of market secrets can become a distraction—one that takes traders away from their real goal: making money. While analysis is good, making money is better.

Thursday 10th April - Melbourne Chapter Meeting / Keith Mundy & Alan Hull

Speaker: Keith Mundy

Topic: Book Review - Secrets for Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets, by Stan Weinstein

For this session, Keith has chosen the very first book on Technical Analysis that truly made sense to him. It’s a highly regarded read; one he believes every technical analyst should go through at least once - if not several times. The book covers core principles and strategies for navigating and profiting in the markets, making it valuable for both newcomers and seasoned traders.

Speaker: Alan Hull

Topic: Understanding Financial Markets as complex adaptive systems

Markets operate in two modes….linear and non-linear. Alan’s talk on understanding financial markets as complex adaptive systems explains why this is so and looks at which trading techniques apply to which mode. Alan’s talk will also include his new CFD trading system and the Hull Moving Average Momentum Oscillator. A Q&A session will follow the presentation and full participation is encouraged.

Speaker: Mike Smith

Topic: From AI to EA – how the door has opened for retail traders to join the automated revolution

Many people have spoken about the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on price action now and in the future, but in terms of the opportunities for retail traders to be pro-actively involved in this revolution have been a little out of reach for many. The same could be said of the ability of Machine Learning as part of the AI world to dictate strategies and trading actions.

BUT the game has changed for retail traders. Mainstream AI platforms (even those your kids use!) are getting closer and closer to being able to read and evaluate market data. This not only enhances the ability to review performance BUT also identify patterns, calculate probability and suggest strategy.

NOW some are now at a stage where development of meaningful code for automated trading models is now at a level where it has moved from the “nearly there”, to working models that take hours to develop rather than days or weeks through the use a programmer (or years learning how to DIY) In this session, you will be shown examples of all of the above, so you can walk away with something PRACTICAL to take your first steps and we will demonstrate an AI developed model back test live, so you can see it for yourself.

Speaker: Kalvert Clark

Topic: Cycles and Forecasts

Until recently, Kalvert Clark often wondered if his eclectic view of life might be a problem. Frequently, he received complaints about the vast collection of books he had on a multitude of subjects and was asked on numerous occasions, "Why don’t you specialise?" This question perplexed him for years. However, clarity came when he listened to an audiobook titled "Range" by David Epstein. The book explores "How Generalists Triumph in a Specialised World" and made it clear that all of Kalvert's diverse interests had developed into a broad range of knowledge beneficial in any endeavour.
